Have you watched American Veteran Keep It Close yet? We love this series so much! The last episode on November 30th was about Lt. Colonel Andrea Peters remembers the struggles she had early in her Army career with regulations for hair styles that overlooked the needs of Black women. It was so amazing to watch this episode as a mom to a little black girl who’s hair is the same. I hope these changes Lt. Colonel Andrea Peters pushes for go further then just the army!

Today a new episode is live and it is called “The Escape Bug”. It is about Patricia Harris recalls her time in the Army as a combination of horror, madness, and resilience. While stationed in Germany, she experienced sexual harassment on active duty. Once home from her deployment, the one place she found solace was in her
red 1967 VW Beetle. The car came to symbolize freedom and peace for her and gave her strength to persevere — and motivated her to assist fellow veterans in need of support. When Harris was deployed to Desert Shield/Desert Storm, she carried a toy replica of the VW bug in her backpack, even taking it with her during combat. Today the VW bug toy is a constant reminder of hope for Harris.

It’s so touching to hear these stories of veterans. This is a series my husband and i will continue to watch as we our a military family as well. It’s inspiring to see all many different people have overcome in their time served. You can check out all the pervious episodes and the new one on this playlist here!
