We got a puppy! Welcome to my first ever blog about any kind of pet. Last week we brought home out 3 month old little yorkie, Reu. I wish I could say I was prepared for this, but truth is that I wasn’t. We knew we were going to eventually get a puppy, we just didn’t know when. It’s been a full busy week with our new pup so I thought I would share the best tips Tips For Bringing Home A New Puppy that we did or wished we did before hand!
- First thing is first BE PATIENT. This new journey is just like having a newborn in your home. The first few weeks are rough because you and your new pup are learning what works for you and getting adjusted! There is so much to do potty training, biting, name learning and more! We know bringing home a new puppy can be a little overwhelming, but you got this!
- PUPPY PROOF your entire home before you bring your new puppy home. So we did not do this! As soon as we got home and she started sniffing around and wandering, we noticed so many things we should have handled before hand! Hide anything that shouldn’t be chewed on. Wires, shoes, small items puppy can choke on and things of that nature. Bringing home a new puppy is new for all involved and this helps make it easier to adjust!
- POTTY FIRST. Once you get home with your new puppy first thing you want to do before exploring his/her new home is take him/her to their designated potty place. Chances are after traveling they may want to go potty so make sure they know where that is first!
- SCHEDULE Just like any other living things, consistency is key. The best thing for you and your new pup and family is to find a schedule that works for you and stick to it. Of course, right now because we’re all on quarantine things are different, but even at home practicing the same feed times, potty times and such will make all the difference for when we all go back to reality!
How did you prepare for bringing home your new puppy? maybe you’re prepping for a new puppy? Let me know in the comments!
